West indian sea island cottonとAmerican sea island cotton以外は全て交配種であり、海島綿ではなく超長綿との名称で呼ばれる。
海島綿は全ての綿の生産量の内、0.00038%しか栽培されていない希少価値の高い綿。
長い繊維長に加え、均一な繊維と天然の撚りによる自然な光沢感と心地よい着心地が最大の特徴。
Sea Island cotton is the origin of all extra–long staple cottons and the only purebred variety.
Except for West Indian Sea Island cotton and American Sea Island cotton, all other ELS cottons are hybrids and are therefore classified simply as extra–long staple cottons rather than true Sea Island cotton.
Sea Island cotton is extremely rare, accounting for only 0.00038% of global cotton production.
